About Us
The SMU Ambassadorial Corps (ASMU) was established in August 2003 to offer exemplary SMU undergraduates the opportunity to hone their skills as the official external relations representatives of the university.
Our Student Ambassadors engage external stakeholders, such as foreign delegates, prominent business leaders and prospective students during their visits to SMU. We share our personal experiences and relate them to the university’s interactive pedagogy, student life and vision.
What can you expect from ASMU?
First, Leadership Development Opportunities. At ASMU, our Ambassadors receive exposure to a myriad of opportunities to hone their leadership skills in various capacities.
Second, Professional Workshops. At ASMU, kickstart your professional development journey with guidance from our network of distinguished alumni and coaches.
Third, Mentorship. ASMU has an extensive Mentorship Programme geared towards allowing Ambassadors connect with their mentors in terms of personal, professional and academic development.
Fourth, a Close Knit Community. The ASMU family is diverse and inclusive, encompassing a strong network of alumni spanning many different industries
Fifth, growing as an Eloquent and Confident Speaker. Through workshops, trainings and numerous opportunities to engage external stakeholders, our Ambassadors hone public-speaking and presentation skills.

- SMU Academic Year Opening Ceremony - ASMU play a pivotal role in supporting the university during the Academic Year Opening Ceremony. During this high-profile event, our Ambassadors curate a seamless experience by ushering distinguished guests while sharing insights regarding the SMU holistic education journey. Ambassadors also serve as official Marshals and anchor the prestigious opening processional, leading esteemed academic and corporate leaders into the ceremony.
- SMU Patron’s Day - SMU Patron's Day stands as the university's most significant annual milestone, commemorating the founding of the institution. ASMU had the distinct honour of serving as the presidential entourage, ushering His Excellency Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, President of the Republic of Singapore and SMU's Patron. Furthermore, we had the privilege to once again host SMU Chancellor, Mr Lim Chee Onn and SMU's Pro-Chancellors, Justice Judith Prakash, marking another memorable Patron's Day spent sharing the university's milestone achievements and vibrant festivities with them.
- SMU Open House - ASMU is a critical player during the university's flagship annual Open House. Our Ambassadors spearhead comprehensive campus walking tours and local bus tours designed to showcase SMU's vibrant city campus and world-class offerings to prospective students and families. In 2026, our Ambassadors dedicated themselves to hosting over 900 visitors across the dynamic two-day event, striving to make a memorable, heartwarming impact on every prospective student and welcoming them into the SMU family.

- 4 Corps Meetings per year (2 per semester, usually on Fridays)
- 2 Corps Retreats per year
- Minimum involvement in 8 tours (average time of 1 hour per tour) and 1 University Event per year

How To Join
Joining the SMU Ambassadorial Corps involves a written application followed by an in-person interview. For this academic year, ASMU will officially launch our recruitment cycle in AY2026-2027, Semester 2. Detailed information regarding the specific application dates, selection criteria, and timeline will be provided closer to the date via your school email. In the meantime, regular updates and insights into the Corps will be shared on our social media channels. We highly encourage you to look out for our upcoming coffee chats and email notifications in Semester 2, as we look forward to welcoming our next cohort of student leaders!
FAQ
Joining ASMU is a long-term commitment that lasts until graduation. During this term, all Ambassadors are expected to conduct campus tours on an ad-hoc basis. Additionally, there are several key events in which ASMU is involved, and incoming Ambassadors will participate in these events.
Through our dedicated Mentorship Programme and comprehensive training workshops, we are committed to bringing out the best in our Ambassadors and guiding them to achieve their fullest potential. Each Junior Ambassador is paired with a Senior Ambassador as part of our Mentorship Programme, ensuring a seamless integration of new recruits into the Corps. Our Senior Ambassadors are professionally trained to be effective mentors, providing a rewarding and supportive journey for the mentees.
The Corps prioritises having a wide variety of university experiences, interests and personalities amongst our ambassadors in order to provide a holistic view of SMU to our guests. As such, there are no fixed experiences or backgrounds which we look for in potential ambassadors. We seek out individuals who want to share their SMU story with others.
This year, ASMU is likely to open recruitment in AY2026-2027 Semester 2. Detailed information about the recruitment process will be provided closer to the date via school email.
