SMU Ambassadorial Corps
ABOUT US
The SMU Ambassadorial Corps (ASMU) was established in August 2003 to offer exemplary SMU undergraduates the opportunity to hone their skills as the official external relations representatives of the university.
Our Student Ambassadors engage external stakeholders, such as foreign delegates, prominent business leaders and prospective students during their visits to SMU. We share our personal experiences and relate them to the university’s interactive pedagogy, student life and vision.
What can you expect from ASMU?
First, Leadership Development Opportunities. At ASMU, our Ambassadors receive exposure to a myriad of opportunities to hone their leadership skills in various capacities.
Second, Professional Workshops. At ASMU, kickstart your professional development journey with guidance from our network of distinguished alumni and coaches.
Third, Mentorship. ASMU has an extensive Mentorship Programme geared at allowing Ambassadors connect with their mentors in terms of personal, professional and academic development.
Fourth, a Close Knit Community. The ASMU family is diverse and inclusive, encompassing a strong network of alumni spanning many different industries
Fifth, growing as an Eloquent and Confident Speaker. Through workshops, trainings and numerous opportunities to engage external stakeholders, our Ambassadors hone public-speaking and presentation skills.
KEY EVENTS
- SMU Open House
ASMU is a big part of SMU's annual Open House. From campus tours on foot, and even campus bus tours, our Ambassadors help to showcase our School to visitors or potential students. - Academic Year Opening Ceremony
ASMU also supports the school in the Academic Year Opening Ceremony. In these events, Ambassadors help usher distinguished guests and share more about our SMU journey as well. - SMU Patron’s Day
SMU Patron's Day is one of the biggest events that SMU hosts yearly. Ambassadors support the event by helping to accompany distinguished guests and key stakeholders of the school. Notably, in this year's Patron's Day, our Ambassadors had the honour of ushering our President, Mdm Halimah Yacob.

OUR TRAINING
- 4 Corps meetings per year (2 per semester, usually on Fridays)
- 3 Corps retreats per year
- Minimum involvement in 8 tours (average time of 45 minutes to an hour per tour) and 1 university event per year

HOW TO JOIN THE CLUB?
Students need to go through an interview to join ASMU. ASMU recruits in AY2022-2023 Semester 2. More information regarding the recruitment process will be provided closer to the date via the school email. Information will also be readily available on our website and social media sites. Do keep a look out for our information session and especially our emailers in Semester 2!

FAQ
Joining ASMU is a long-term commitment that lasts until you graduate. During the term, all Ambassadors are expected to conduct campus tours on an ad-hoc basis. Apart from that, there are key events where ASMU is involved in which incoming Ambassadors will be a part of.
With our very own Mentorship Programme and training workshops, we are committed to bringing out the best in our Ambassadors and guiding them to achieve their fullest potential. Each Ambassador will be paired with a mentor in our Mentorship Programme, allowing for seamless integration of our new recruits into the Corps. Our Senior Ambassadors are professionally trained to be mentors, thus providing a rewarding journey for the mentees.
Diversity is central to the Corps, so we look for a wide variety of university experiences, interests and personalities instead of a fixed set of experiences and backgrounds. The rationale for this is that it provides a more holistic view of SMU for our guests. We understand that it takes time to accumulate diversity in your experiences and we strongly recommend you to still sign up even while you are building up on your experiences.

There are no strict rules governing the type of CCAs you join, as we encourage diversity in terms of the university events/clubs you wish to join. You are highly encouraged to build up your own SMU experiences through other CCAs/SMU activities, so we encourage you to join CCAs you are interested in.
