SMU Lexicon
ABOUT US
Established in 2017, Lexicon is a platform for all SMU students to express their opinions on Singapore’s ever-progressing legal landscape. Lexicon publishes both on its blog for shorter, more contemporary opinion pieces which are catered to the masses, and the Singapore Law Journal for more in-depth, analytical articles for those who wish to take a stab at more detailed academic writing.
Lexicon also collaborates with the Supreme Court of Singapore on two initiatives: the Supreme Court Case Summary Initiative, under which SMU students summarise selected Court of Appeal judgments to foster greater public awareness of these cases and their implications; as well as the Supreme Court Rule of Law Articles, under which students write about selected issues concerning the rule of law to foster greater public awareness of how cases are decided and the legal processes involved.
For SMU students who wish to submit pieces to us, don’t worry – no experience is required. Our platform is here as a space for those who are interested in and wish to write about the law.
KEY EVENTS
Every summer, Lexicon publishes our journal, the Singapore Law Journal (“SLJ”). The SLJ contains a collection of articles, case commentaries, and case summaries written by students and esteemed academics.
Apart from the SLJ, Lexicon also publishes pieces regularly on our blog, and as part of our collaboration with the Supreme Court of Singapore.

OUR TRAINING
Lexicon's General Editors perform their editing tasks throughout the year, as and when they are allocated pieces to edit.
OUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Since our establishment in 2017, Lexicon has published numerous articles, case commentaries, and case summaries on our blog, and through our collaboration with the Supreme Court of Singapore. We have also been publishing through the SLJ annually since 2021.
HOW TO JOIN THE CLUB?
Lexicon usually recruits our General Editors around July every year, through a three-stage selection process: an application form, an editing test, and an interview. A recruitment email will be sent out to all SMU Law students.
Since, the recruitment period is before the start of the academic year, our General Editors typically consist of Year 2 to 4 students.
