SMU Badminton
ABOUT US
SMU Badminton is a club housed by passionate and enthusiastic badminton athletes who play the sport competitively. Besides the competitive team, the club also has our recreational club for players to play the sport at a non-competitive level. Badminton is a vigorous sport and one can improve their physical physique and strength through badminton training. One can also improve their mental fortitude through the competitive element of the sport itself. SMU Badminton Club takes part in the yearly hosted IVP (Inter-varsity Polytechnic games) and SUNIG (Singapore Uni games).
Aside from taking part in competitions, SMU Badminton also actively engages our SMU student population as well as students from other institutions through our events. In essence, we are passionate individuals devoted to playing the sport, and sharing the sport with those around us. :)

"SMU Badminton has been more than just a club. It is a place of solace and respite, where I can seek comfort and be myself at all times. Apart from training and competing, the club provides a platform for diverse personalities to get together, enjoy our time and forge friendships."
- Alistare Chua, Member, School of Business
"In SMU Badminton, I found my first friends who turned out to be my biggest supporters, both on and off court. The seniors are always affable and encouraging, enabling me to never feel alone. Their advice was not limited to gameplay, but included academics, allowing me to better my studies."
- Sim Ee Ying, Female Captain, School of Business
FAQ
Although our club has a competitive team to compete, however, our club also emphasizes having fun while training hard at the same time. It is no doubt the training will be tiring but members will certainly have loads of fun at the same time as well!
A one-time small fee will be charged upon confirmation for the recreational team members in order to maintain the equipment and ensure that our facilities are kept in good condition.
While it is not a requirement to have experience, as the number of slots we open for new intake every year is incredibly limited, we are afraid that we will only be admitting students who have track records of playing competitively. However, the recreational team does not have any of such requirements, do check it out!
Yes, we do! Our recreational members have sessions every Friday at SMU’s Multi-Purpose Sports Hall. The recruitment for the recreational team happens at the beginning of every semester and membership will last for the entirety of that semester.
For recreational members, we will be providing the equipment (i.e. racquets, shuttles, facilities). Sports shoes will not be provided. However, if you have your own equipment that you are more comfortable with utilising, feel free to bring them along!
