About Us
SMU FinLIT is a student-driven initiative dedicated to building a future where financial literacy, digital inclusion, and financial confidence come naturally to every young adult. We believe personal finance is more than understanding money. It is a form of empowerment that creates opportunities, fosters independence, and equips individuals to navigate uncertainty with confidence.
Originally founded in 2013 as the Citi Foundation–SMU Financial Literacy for Young Adults Club, we began through a visionary partnership between Singapore Management University and the Citi Foundation, supported by Citi Singapore. In 2024, we rebranded as SMU FinLIT, embracing a renewed identity that reflects our expanding mission of making financial education more accessible, practical, and relevant through peer-led learning and digital engagement.
Since 2025, SMU FinLIT Club has been generously supported by Jay and Marilyn Ng.
Our mission extends beyond teaching financial concepts. We aim to empower students and young adults with practical knowledge and skills to build strong financial foundations, develop healthy financial habits, make informed decisions, grow their personal portfolios responsibly, and protect themselves against financial risks and uncertainty.
Executive Committee members actively conduct financial literacy masterclasses across Institutes of Higher Learning and universities, helping students develop essential financial skills and take ownership of their financial futures. Our members also regularly engage with industry through collaborations, partnerships, and media initiatives.
In 2024, our members participated in CNA’s Townhall on Adulting as part of the Money Mind series, while partnerships with Temasek and the Financial Times further expanded our efforts to promote financial literacy among young adults in Singapore.
Today, SMU FinLIT continues to grow as a community built around learning, accessibility, and impact, connecting students with opportunities, resources, and conversations that help them navigate an increasingly complex financial world.
Driven to learn, committed to uplifting others, and motivated to create lasting impact, SMU FinLIT is where your journey begins. For more details, visit https://skbi.smu.edu.sg/finlit
