ABOUT US
SMU FinLIT is a student-driven initiative dedicated to shaping a future where financial literacy, digital and financial inclusion come naturally to every young adult. We believe personal finance isn’t just a skill but rather a form of empowerment that unlocks opportunities, fosters independence and builds resilience to face life’s uncertainties with confidence.
Originally founded in 2014 as the Citi Foundation–SMU Financial Literacy for Young Adults Club, we began with a visionary partnership between Singapore Management University and the Citi Foundation, supported by Citi Singapore. This collaboration launched a bold outreach movement that equipped students with essential financial knowledge and a platform to educate and share knowledge.
In 2023, we rebranded as the SMU Financial Literacy, Inclusion & Technology Programme (SMU FinLIT), embracing a renewed identity that reflects our growing mission. We remain grounded in our original purpose and place stronger emphasis on empowering students through peer-led learning. Our aim is to expand access to financial education to a wider group and use digital channels to create lasting change.
Our work extends beyond campus. Our Executive Committee members actively conduct masterclasses at various Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) and universities, empowering students with essential financial literacy knowledge. These sessions not only educate but also inspire others to take charge of their financial futures. By cultivating student leaders who are passionate about both learning and teaching, we create a meaningful ripple effect, spreading financial awareness, building confidence, and fostering responsible financial habits across current and future generations.
Driven to grow, eager to learn and ready to make a difference? SMU FinLIT is where your journey begins. Empower yourself, inspire others and shape a financially inclusive future with us here.
