SMUX Kayaking
ABOUT US
SMUX Kayaking Team is a family of new and seasoned kayakers who are always looking forward to our next adventure together.
As a team, we embark on weekly adventures around Marina Reservoir, Pasir Ris, Sembawang and many more locations! Our club also seeks to take on expeditions beyond Singapore’s shores. We’ve kayaked in the calm rivers in Perth, scenic waters of Lake Toba and Taiwan as well as white water rafting together with our fellow SMUX Xseed friends!
KEY EVENTS
-
Annual Hike and Glide (A collaboration with SMUX Trekking)
Hike and Glide combines the best parts of Kayak and Trek events into a day of fun-filled adventure, with the intention of providing a comprehensive SMUX experience for the SMU community. -
Paddle Picnic
If you join us for our paddles, you'll get to feast with us at different eateries when we beach up after a long day of kayaking at places like kelongs at Ubin or restaurants near PAssion WaVe outlets. -
Kayak by the Bay
This paddle allows kayakers to paddle in the bay area near Marina Barrage and Gardens by the Bay. Paddlers not only get to kayak but also enjoy the scenic view of the Merlion and other iconic landmarks.

HOW TO JOIN THE CLUB?
Students do not need to audition/ interview to join SMUX Kayaking, as our club welcomes individuals of all kayaking abilities to join.
"Without SMUX kayaking, I am pretty sure that my SMU life would not have been so colourful. With weekly paddles, I have the opportunity to take my mind off the dull mugging and the worry of projects."
- Adrian Wong, 14th SMUX Kayaking Safety IC, SOA, year 1
"Joining SMUX Kayaking was probably the best choice I made in SMU thus far. It helped me grow as an individual and it also allowed me to meet new friends while enjoying the fun and exciting water adventures!! Every single experience will be etched deeply in my brain and heart and this is how SMUX has changed my life."
- Edwin Koh, 15th SMUX Kayaking Team, Marketing I/C, LKCSB, Year 2
FAQ
Certain paddles require a 1 star or 2 star certification, but we do have paddles catered to participants who are new to kayaking.
Once a week, on Saturdays. Closer to exam periods, we will take a break from our weekly paddles.
Most of our paddles are subsidised. The prices will be listed when the paddles are opened for signups.
We have kayaking events that are specifically catered towards beginners or new paddlers. These events act as an introductory course to kayaking and are focused on teaching the basics of paddling for anyone who is new to the activity.
We will conduct a Water Proficiency Test (WPT) to determine your swimming ability. If you have a prior swimming certification, you need not attend the Water Proficiency Test.
